ExternalDNS

ExternalDNS keeps DNS records in sync with applications running in Kubernetes. It reads resources such as Services and Ingresses and creates, updates, or removes the corresponding records at a connected DNS provider.

What does ExternalDNS do?

When a relevant Kubernetes resource changes, ExternalDNS updates its DNS record automatically. This reduces manual DNS changes when applications are deployed or their endpoints change.

ExternalDNS is not a DNS server. It manages records at an existing external DNS provider.

Why Managed by SysEleven?

SysEleven operates the ExternalDNS component and monitors its health and synchronization errors. This provides a maintained connection between Kubernetes resources and your DNS provider.

Your responsibilities

You select and maintain the DNS provider and zones, and provide the credentials and permissions needed for the connection. You also configure the Services, Ingresses, or annotations that control which DNS records ExternalDNS creates, and verify that they point to the intended destinations.
