Velero
Velero backs up and restores Kubernetes resources and configurations. In MetaKube Operator, SysEleven uses it to protect the resources of the Managed Services Building Blocks it operates.
What does Velero do?
Velero creates backups of Kubernetes objects such as Deployments, Services, and ConfigMaps. These backups provide a basis for restoring the configuration of managed components after an incident.
Why Managed by SysEleven?
SysEleven deploys, maintains, updates, and monitors Velero within the agreed service scope. The Kubernetes configuration of SysEleven-operated Building Blocks is included in a consistent backup process.
Backup scope
The standard backup covers Kubernetes resources and configurations of SysEleven-operated Building Blocks in SysEleven namespaces.
Persistent data in volumes is not included. Stateful services, including databases, use their own backup and restore mechanisms for application data. For Redis and RabbitMQ, an additional Velero volume backup can be arranged separately.
Backups are stored in S3-compatible Object Storage. The standard retention period is 14 days; a different period can be agreed individually.
Your responsibilities
Customer-managed namespaces are outside the standard backup scope. You plan, configure, and operate backups for these namespaces, including storage, schedules, retention, encryption, and restore tests.
