Adminserver NG (SSH Jumphost)
Description
We recommend hosting your shop or CMS backend on a separate managed cloud instance to avoid burdening application servers with routine tasks and to enhance security when accessing the backend. We refer to this server as the "admin server." It is designed for the following tasks:
- Mail relay (see also Managed Services Exim)
- Executing your application's cron jobs
- Deploying new versions of your application to the application servers
- Working with your application backend's web interface
To execute and manage cron jobs, we set up SSH access for the customer using key-based authentication (minimum 4096 bits). This SSH user has the same system access rights as the Apache process running on the server. Optionally, this setup can support a jump host configuration, allowing the SSH user to access specific files or services on the managed cloud instances. We can further enhance your application's security by restricting access to your shop or CMS backend to a specific group of individuals or IP addresses. What we aim to achieve with this service:
- Reduced load on application servers
- Greater operational reliability
- Enhanced security through backend isolation
- Convenient, centralized deployment
- Access to services or files
